Cognac. Armagnac. Absinthe. Benedictine. French spirits are a world unto their own.

About French Spirits

France produces a wide variety of spirit-based liqueurs, as well as vodka and various other spirits, but is best known for brandy, particularly the grape-based brandies of the appellations of Cognac and Armagnac in southwest France.

These similar spirits are considered among the finest brandies in the world. France is also notable for spirits made from other fruits, such as apple-based Calvados from Normandy and eau-de-vie (water of life in English) from pear, cherry, raspberry and strawberry in the Alsace region of northeastern France.
