Many people think of Cognac as that dusty bottle from their grandparent’s liquor cabinet. Little do they know that this rich caramel-colored elixir is not reserved for some secret society. Open your customers’ eyes and palate by introducing them to the wonders of this spirit from the Cognac region of France with the following tips from Eric Hemer, Senior Vice President and Director of Wine Education at Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits.

"Cognac. It really depends on the type; a youthful, relatively inexpensive VS or VSOP, or a more expensive, mature Cognac such as XO. The traditional way to enjoy cognac is neat, served in a snifter, or balloon glass, which allows you to easily swirl and aerate the spirit to enjoy the bouquet. Served in this fashion, the Cognac is at room temperature, and by holding the snifter in your hand, your body temperature warms the spirit slightly, causing the Cognac to release aromatic components not easily noticeable at cooler temperatures. Some prefer a slightly smaller glass with a tulip-shaped bowl. Lighter styles of Cognac may also be enjoyed in a cocktail, served straight up or on the rocks."

Whether used as a component in a cocktail, enjoyed neat or on the rocks, invite your clientele to join the Cognac club and discover all that this timeless spirit has to offer!
