An entrepreneur with a career rooted in the tequila industry for the past 25 years, Bertha González Nieves, Co-Founder and CEO of Tequila Casa Dragones, is the first certified female Maestra Tequilera by the Academia Mexicana de Catadores de Tequila. Since founding Casa Dragones in 2009, Bertha set on a quest to expand the tequila repertoire through innovation, Mexican craftsmanship, and modern, sustainable production. Launching with the ultra-smooth sipping tequila Casa Dragones Joven, it was Bertha’s mission to prove that tequila, an authentically Mexican spirit, could own a fair share of the luxury spirits segment, among long-established categories like cognacs and whiskeys.

Since then, Casa Dragones has launched four styles of uniquely smooth sipping tequilas of the highest quality to explore the possibilities of taste and surprise and enamor the tequila lover. Casa Dragones Joven, which launched in 2009, was a first-of-its-kind sipping tequila, a small batch, a master blend of 100% Blue Agave silver and extra aged tequila, rested in new American Oak barrels, for a smooth and complex taste that is perfect for sipping and pairing with food. Casa Dragones Blanco is a crisp, agave-forward tequila, perfect for craft cocktails and to enjoy on the rocks. Casa Dragones Añejo Barrel Blend is aged in two styles of custom-made wood casks, French Oak and American Oak, then blended to achieve its distinctive, rich character. Casa Dragones’ newest expression, Reposado Mizunara, is another category-first, as the tequila is rested exclusively in 100% rare Japanese Mizunara casks, typically used for aging Japanese whiskies.

Described as the ‘spirit behind high-end tequila’ by the New York Times, Bertha has built Casa Dragones into a successful business led by its defining core principles: innovation, modern production, luxury, sustainability, and Mexican craftsmanship. Proudly born and raised in Mexico City, Forbes has identified Bertha as “One of the 50 Most Powerful Women in Mexico.” She has also been named one of Mexico’s top young businesswomen by Revista Expansión, Mexico’s leading business magazine, she has been named one of “The Most Innovative Women in Food + Drink” by Food & Wine and Fortune and hailed as “The First Lady of Tequila” by the Los Angeles Times.

Bertha’s commitment to Mexican craftsmanship and innovation is further reflected in Casa Dragones’ physical and spiritual home – La Casa Dragones in San Miguel de Allende, the original 17th-century stables of the legendary Dragones cavalry who ignited Mexico’s Independence Movement of 1810. La Casa Dragones is now transformed into a luxurious four-bedroom showcase of Mexican design focused on mid-century Bajío, and was recognized by the international community with a Créateurs Design Award in “Best Hospitality Project in Interior Design.” La Casa Dragones offers once-in-a-lifetime experiences such as private tastings and tours, sunset sipping experiences, pairing dinners, and private events.
