A dessert that combines the intense flavors of dark chocolate with the subtle coffee notes.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup dark chocolate, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 large eggs, separated
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup coffee liqueur
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • Cocoa powder and chocolate shavings for garnish (optional)

Directions

In a heatproof bowl, combine the finely chopped dark chocolate and unsalted butter. Melt the mixture using a double boiler or in short bursts in the microwave, stirring until smooth. Allow it to cool slightly.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and granulated sugar until the mixture becomes pale and slightly thickened.

Stir in the coffee liqueur into the melted chocolate and butter mixture. Mix well to combine.

Gradually add the egg yolk mixture to the chocolate mixture, stirring constantly to ensure a smooth and homogeneous texture.

In a clean, dry bowl, whip the egg whites until stiff peaks form. This will add lightness and fluffiness to the mousse.

Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the chocolate mixture. Take care not to deflate the egg whites, creating a light and airy mousse.

In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. The whipped cream will add creaminess to the mousse.

Fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture until well combined. This step completes the mousse base.

Spoon the Chocolate Mousse into serving glasses or bowls. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, allowing the mousse to set and develop its rich flavors.

Before serving, dust the mousse with cocoa powder and garnish with chocolate shavings if desired.
