This recipe combines the rich and smoky flavors of whiskey with a sweet glaze, resulting in a flavorful and impressive main dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 bone-in fully cooked ham (8-10 pounds)
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 cup whiskey (bourbon or your preferred type)
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup pineapple juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • Whole cloves for studding the ham (optional)

Directions

Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). If the ham has a rind, remove it, leaving a thin layer of fat. Score the fat in a diamond pattern, and if you like, stud the intersections with whole cloves for added flavor.

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar, Dijon mustard, whiskey, maple syrup, pineapple juice, ground cinnamon, and ground cloves. Stir well and bring to a simmer. Allow the glaze to cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until it thickens slightly.

Place the ham in a roasting pan. Brush a generous amount of the whiskey glaze over the entire surface of the ham.

Bake the ham in the preheated oven, uncovered, for about 1.5 to 2 hours or until the internal temperature reaches 140°F (60°C). Baste the ham with the glaze every 30 minutes.

Once cooked, remove the ham from the oven and let it rest for 15-20 minutes before carving.

While the ham is resting, continue to cook the remaining glaze on the stove until it thickens to a syrupy consistency.

Carve the ham into slices and serve with the additional glaze on the side. It pairs well with roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or your favorite festive sides.
