Experience fall's warmth with these luscious pears poached in a fragrant white wine and citrus blend. Infused with spices like cinnamon and star anise, this dish pairs perfectly with creamy cheese or vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe pears, peeled and cored
  • 2 cups dry white wine
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 orange, zested and juiced
  • 1 lemon, zested and juiced
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 star anise pods
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Optional: fresh mint for garnish

Directions

In a saucepan, combine white wine, water, sugar, orange juice, lemon juice, citrus zests, cinnamon sticks, and star anise.

Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.

Add the peeled and cored pears to the simmering mixture, ensuring they are submerged.

Cover and poach the pears for about 25-30 minutes, or until tender.

Remove the pears and place them upright in serving dishes.

Increase the heat and reduce the poaching liquid by half to create a syrupy glaze (about 10-15 minutes).

Stir in vanilla extract before removing from heat.

Drizzle the syrup over the pears and allow to cool slightly before serving.

Optional: Garnish with fresh mint leaves if desired.
