About Sonoma
Sonoma County includes 18 AVAs (American Viticultural Areas) and spans the distance from the Mayacamas Mountains in the east to California’s Pacific Coast. Ocean fog streams in through the Petaluma Gap and moderates the climate of AVAs marked by breaks in the coastal mountain range. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir thrive in the cool climate of the Sonoma Coast and Russian River; Carneros produces traditional method sparkling wines; old vine Zinfandels abound in Dry Creek, and Bordeaux-style blends are found in Alexander and Knights Valleys.
